Only those who could wake up early on a cold November morning could witness this breathtaking natural treasure. I left the rural hot spring inn where I had stayed the previous night at 5 a.m. It was still before dawn, and the sky was filled with countless stars. Using a flashlight to light my way, I walked to the bus stop that would take me to the top of Nagamineyama Mountain. The bus ride to the summit took about an hour. What awaited me there was a sight unlike anything I had ever seen before. A vast sea of clouds stretched out below, with the majestic Japan Alps rising above them—it was like a glimpse of heaven. I even enjoyed a cup of coffee while gazing at the sea of clouds, making the experience even more special.
