My cherished cashmere nightgown, repaired and revived with materials from Yuzawaya. A moment of handiwork adds warmth to my daily life. Yuzawaya, Kamata, Tokyo, Japan.
Yuzawaya's logo features a knitting sheep.
Yuzawa-ya truly deserves to be called "the castle" for those who love handmade crafts. Founded in 1955 as the Yuzawa Yarn Store in Kamata, Tokyo, it has become a paradise for craft enthusiasts.
When you exit the south gate of Kamata Station and walk along the railway line, the world of Yuzawa-ya reveals itself before your eyes. The main store consists of three buildings and offers an astounding selection of craft supplies—about 100,000 items from around the globe. It even has a craft school that offers a variety of classes to inspire creativity.
I often visit Yuzawa-ya to get supplies for repairing my favorite clothes. For example, I buy craft felt and embroidery thread to breathe new life into cherished items. Today, I repaired my nightwear spats.
These spats are made of 100% cashmere, which is lightweight, warm, and luxuriously soft. Of course, they were quite expensive when I bought them, and now they cost even more. Despite the numerous holes, I can’t bring myself to throw them away—they’re simply too special.
